Quirks & Quarts is now a fully approved raw kitchen serving the Calgary area. This means great things for you! We have a fabulous line of fermented foods and raw snacks for you to choose from. Below are some examples of the way my family eats some of these tasty foods. The littles in the house even ask for them. Check out the store page to see what is available.
Everything is made by hand in small batches. There are tree nuts in the kitchen but no peanuts. We are very allergy aware so please feel free to tell us if you need something special.
Weekend delivery is available for an additional fee but pick-up is free! Hope to see you soon!!
Fermented foods are an important part of a healthy diet. We should all be striving to include 1/4 cup with every meal from a wide variety of sources. Ferments include sauerkraut, yogurt, kefir - both water and milk, kimchi, fermented pickles, condiments, kombucha, and maybe some others your didn't realize like cheese, beer and wine.
Did you know fermenting increases the vitamin content of many foods? Crazy science stuff.
Fermented foods don't have to be boring. Wouldn't you love to be able to get your ferments in by eating a frozen treat? Try a water kefir pop or milk kefir ice cream.
Did you know that adding 1 tablespoon of milk kefir to your diet has more probiotics than most probiotic supplements? So much kefir info here.
Raw foods should make up a large part of your diet to ensure that you're getting a good source of digestive enzymes. Certain foods have anti-nutrients and benefit from a long soaking period before cooking or crisping. Low temperature dried treats like the cookies or sunflower seed shown, and like the cucumber chips in my dehydrator right now, are a great way of keeping to a well rounded diet and staying away from the processed junk foods at the grocery store.
Did you know that soaking starts the germination process? Sometimes you'll even see the little shoot start. More info and a great chart telling you how long to soak different things here.
